Psalm 136

1Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever.

2Give thanks to the God of gods. His love endures forever.

3Give thanks to the Lord of lords: His love endures forever.

4to him who alone does great wonders, His love endures forever.

5who by his understanding made the heavens, His love endures forever.

6who spread out the earth upon the waters, His love endures forever.

7who made the great lights— His love endures forever.

8the sun to govern the day, His love endures forever.

9the moon and stars to govern the night; His love endures forever.

10to him who struck down the firstborn of Egypt His love endures forever.

11and brought Israel out from among them His love endures forever.

12with a mighty hand and outstretched arm; His love endures forever.

13to him who divided the Red Sea asunder His love endures forever.

14and brought Israel through the midst of it, His love endures forever.

15but swept Pharaoh and his army into the Red Sea; His love endures forever.

16to him who led his people through the wilderness; His love endures forever.

17to him who struck down great kings, His love endures forever.

18and killed mighty kings— His love endures forever.

19Sihon king of the Amorites His love endures forever.

20and Og king of Bashan— His love endures forever.

21and gave their land as an inheritance, His love endures forever.

22an inheritance to his servant Israel. His love endures forever.

23He remembered us in our low estate His love endures forever.

24and freed us from our enemies. His love endures forever.

25He gives food to every creature. His love endures forever.

26Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever.

Ephesians 1:3-6

3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— 6to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.

The Apostles' Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,

Creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord.

He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit

and born of the Virgin Mary.

He suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended to the grave.

On the third day He rose again.

He ascended into heaven,

and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.

He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic Church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting. Amen.

Lyrics
HYMN OF PRAISE & ADORATION(AM & PM)

I Sing the Mighty Power of God

Words by Isaac Watts. Arranged by Mack Wilberg.

Verse 1
I sing the mighty power of God
That made the mountains rise
That spread the flowing seas abroad
And built the lofty skies
I sing the wisdom that ordained
The sun to rule the day
The moon shines full at His command
And all the stars obey

Verse 2
I sing the goodness of the Lord
That filled the earth with food
He formed the creatures with His word
And then pronounced them good
Lord, how Thy wonders are displayed
Where'er I turn my eye
If I survey the ground I tread
Or gaze upon the skies

Verse 3
There's not a plant or flower below
But makes Thy glories known
And clouds arise and tempests blow
By order from Thy throne
While all that borrows life from Thee
Is ever in Thy care
And everywhere that we can be
Thou, God, art present there

HYMN OF PRAYER(AM)

It Took a Miracle

Words & Music by John W Peterson.

Verse 1
My Father is omnipotent
And that you can't deny
A God of might and miracles
'Tis written in the sky

(Refrain)
It took a miracle to put the stars in place
It took a miracle to hang the world in space
But when He saved our soul
Cleansed and made us whole
It took a miracle of love and grace

Verse 2
Though here His glory has been shown
We still can't fully see
The wonders of His might His throne
'Twill take eternity

(Refrain)

Verse 3
The Bible tells us of His power
And wisdom all way through
And every little bird and flower
Are testimonies too

(Refrain)

ANTHEM(AM)

How Great Thou Art

Words and Music by Stuart Kine.

Verse 1
O Lord my God
When I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made
I see the stars I hear the rolling thunder
Thy power throughout
The universe displayed

Refrain
Then sings my soul my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art
How great Thou art

Verse 2
When through the woods
And forest glades I wander
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees
When I look down
From lofty mountain grandeur
And hear the brook
And feel the gentle breeze

(Refrain)

Verse 3
And when I think
That God His Son not sparing
Sent Him to die I scarce can take it in
That on the cross my burden gladly bearing
He bled and died to take away my sin

(Refrain)

Verse 4
When Christ shall come
With shout of acclamation
And take me home
What joy shall fill my heart
Then I shall bow in humble adoration
And then proclaim
My God how great Thou art

(Refrain)

HYMN OF RESPONSE(AM & PM)

This Is My Father's World

Words by Malthie Babcock. Music by Franklin Sheppard.

Verse 1
This is my Father's world
And to my listening ears
All nature sings and round me rings
The music of the spheres
This is my Father's world
I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees of skies and seas
His hand the wonders wrought

Verse 2
This is my Father's world
The birds their carols raise
The morning light the lily white
Declare their Maker's praise
This is my Father's world
He shines in all that's fair
In the rustling grass I hear Him pass
He speaks to me everywhere

Verse 3
This is my Father's world
O let me ne'er forget
That though the wrong
Seems oft so strong
God is the ruler yet
This is my Father's world
The battle is not done
Jesus who died shall be satisfied
And earth and heav'n be one

About ORPC & Confessions

HISTORY

The Orchard Road Presbyterian Church (ORPC) was founded in 1856 to minister to the needs of the Scots community in Singapore. The first church building on the present site was completed in 1878, and has been extended several times. In 1975, the sanctuary was extended, and in 1985, the new extension of Dunman Hall was completed and a new chapel was built. Alongside the growth of the physical facilities has been the development of the church from an English-speaking expatriate congregation to a local church embracing four different language congregations. In 1995 we planted a branch church (Bukit Batok Presbyterian Church) which became independent in 2013. Similarly, our Mandarin congregation (Providence Presbyterian Church) became independent in 2005. ORPC consists of the English Congregation and the Indonesian Congregation, and worshipping with us now in the same building is Providence Presbyterian Church. From Oct 2025 to Nov 2027 (projected), ORPC is worshipping at Suntec City Convention Centre while renovation works are ongoing.

FAITH AND MEMBERSHIP

As a church with roots in historic Presbyterianism growing out of the Westminster Confession of Faith, we affirm the Lordship of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. We look to the Scriptures as the inspired Word of God and the one authoritative and infallible standard for our faith and practice. We welcome those who profess Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour into our formal membership. Our membership is truly international, representing the breadth of God's call upon people from all ethnic and economic backgrounds. Members are received upon initial profession of faith in Jesus Christ by baptism, confirmation, and in transfer from other Christian churches. Classes for baptism, confirmation, and for transfer of membership are held periodically and announced in the bulletin.

THE LORD'S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for Thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

DOXOLOGY

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
