Scripture
Genesis 1:1-5
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning-the first day.
John 1:1-5
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the grave. On the third day He rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Hymn Lyrics
Because He Lives
Verse 1
God sent His son they called Him Jesus
He came to love heal and forgive
He lived and died to buy my pardon
An empty grave is there
To prove my Savior lives
Refrain
Because He lives I can face tomorrow
Because He lives all fear is gone
Because I know He holds the future
And life is worth the living
Just because He lives
Verse 2
How sweet to hold a newborn baby
And feel the pride and joy he gives
But greater still the calm assurance
This child can face uncertain days
Because He lives
(Refrain)
Verse 3
And then one day I’ll cross that river
I’ll fight life’s final war with pain
And then as death gives way to vict’ry
I’ll see the lights of glory
And I’ll know He lives
(Refrain)
Jesus Strong and Kind
Verse 1
Jesus said that if I thirst
I should come to him
No one else can satisfy
I should come to him
Verse 2
Jesus said If I am weak
I should come to him
No one else can be my strength
I should come to him
Refrain
For the Lord is good and faithful
He will keep us day and night
We can always run to Jesus
Jesus strong and kind
Verse 3
Jesus said that if I fear
I should come to him
No one else can be my shield
I should come to him
(Refrain)
Verse 4
Jesus said if I am lost
He will come to me
And he showed me on that cross
He will come to me
(Refrain)
This I Believe
Verse 1
Our Father everlasting
The all creating One
God Almighty
Through Your Holy Spirit
Conceiving Christ the Son
Jesus our Savior
Refrain
I believe in God our Father
I believe in Christ the Son
I believe in the Holy Spirit
Our God is three in One
I believe in the resurrection
That we will rise again
For I believe in the name of Jesus
Verse 2
Our Judge and our Defender
Suffered and crucified
Forgiveness is in You
Descended into darkness
You rose in glorious life
Forever seated high
(Refrain)
Bridge
I believe in You
I believe You rose again
I believe that Jesus Christ is Lord
(Refrain)
I believe in life eternal
I believe in the virgin birth
I believe in the saints’ communion
And in Your holy Church
I believe in the resurrection
When Jesus comes again
For I believe in the name of Jesus
(Refrain)
He Is Lord
Verse 1
Emptied of His glory
God became a man
To walk on earth in ridicule and shame
A Ruler yet a Servant
A Shepherd yet a Lamb
A Man of sorrows, agony and pain
Verse 2
Humbled and rejected
Beaten and despised
Upon the cross the Son of God was slain
Just like a lamb to slaughter
A sinless sacrifice
But by His death, His loss became our gain
Refrain
He is Lord, He is Lord,
He is risen from the dead and He is Lord
Ev’ry knee shall bow
Ev’ry tongue confess
That Jesus Christ is Lord
Verse 3
Satan’s forces crumbled like a mighty wall
The stone that held Him in was rolled aside
The Prince of Life in glory was lifted over all
Now earth and heaven echoes with the cry
(Refrain)
Consider Christ
Verse 1
Consider Christ the source of our salvation
That He should take the penalty for me
Though He was pure a lamb without a blemish
He took my sins and nailed them to the tree
Refrain
My Lord and God You are so rich in mercy
Mere words alone are not sufficient thanks
So take my life transform renew and change me
That I might be a living sacrifice
Verse 2
Consider Christ that He should trust His Father
In the garden of Gethsemane
Though full of dread and fearful of the anguish
He drank the cup that was reserved for me
(Refrain)
Verse 3
Consider Christ for death He has defeated
And He arose appeared for all to see
And now He sits at God’s right hand in heaven
Where He prepares a resting place for me
(Refrain)

A Legacy of Faith for Future Generations
About ORPC
The Orchard Road Presbyterian Church (ORPC) was founded in 1856 to minister to the needs of the Scots community in Singapore. The first church building on the present site was completed in 1878, and has been extended several times. In 1975, the sanctuary was extended, and in 1985, the new extension of Dunman Hall was completed and a new chapel was built. Alongside the growth of the physical facilities has been the development of the church from an English-speaking expatriate congregation to a local church embracing four different language congregations. In 1995 we planted a branch church (Bukit Batok Presbyterian Church) which became independent in 2013. Similarly, our Mandarin congregation (Providence Presbyterian Church) became independent in 2005. ORPC consists of the English Congregation and the Indonesian Congregation, and worshipping with us now in the same building is Providence Presbyterian Church. From Oct 2025 to Nov 2027 (projected), ORPC is worshipping at Suntec City Convention Centre while renovation works are ongoing.
Faith and Membership
As a church with roots in historic Presbyterianism growing out of the Westminster Confession of Faith, we affirm the Lordship of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. We look to the Scriptures as the inspired Word of God and the one authoritative and infallible standard for our faith and practice. We welcome those who profess Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour into our formal membership. Our membership is truly international, representing the breadth of God’s call upon people from all ethnic and economic backgrounds. Members are received upon initial profession of faith in Jesus Christ by baptism, confirmation, and in transfer from other Christian churches. Classes for baptism, confirmation, and for transfer of membership are held periodically and announced in the bulletin.
The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for Thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
Doxology
Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
